President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown just completed two days of talks at the Camp David presidential retreat. This isolated mountain retreat, named for President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s grandson, is located 100 kilometers north of Washington, DC. 81 hectares in area, it is reserved for the private use of the President of the United States. Press access to the resort is tightly restricted, except for the occasional photo opportunity. VOA’s George Dwyer was able to speak with some area residents who live in the shadow of Camp David to discuss its effect on their communities. Camp David has served US presidents and their families as a summer hideaway since 1942 — offering a cool mountain respite from the sometimes-stifling summer heat of Washington, DC But Camp David is also used at other times of the year, as a uniquely private place for both business and relaxation. “Camp David is an isolated area. Tourists cannot get close to it, it is fenced off (and) there is a large amount of government property there,” says Presidential historian Michael Barrone. He says the camp’s isolation also makes it an ideal location for hosting foreign leaders and staging, sometimes, intensive negotiations as well. “President George W. That place mostly serves as an “escape” if something were to happen. It was reported that VP Dick Cheney went to Camp David during 9/11.. WRONG! He was certainly close to Camp David, but there’s no way in hell that’s where he was most of the time. He was actually at the Raven Rock Complex (aka Site-R) 8 miles north of Thurmont in Fairfield PA, a D.U.M.B 20 levels deep.. And how do I know this? I’m a local! The president flies over our house all the time in his convoy! But yeah, CD is a front.
I never heard that they practiced sorcery at Camp David? What’s your source? Is this where Darth Sidious came from, or is he just a frequent visitor? And Tony Soprano gets invited to the place, too? Do they let hm fly in a a Presidential chopper, or does he have to drive his Escalade in there?
What lie was it based on? I mean…Ike’s grandson REALLY was named David…so…not sure what “lie” it’s based on. And as for the person below that says it’s a waste of money, it’s in a national park.
