Imagine a story that is a cross between the ‘Incredibles’ and ‘The Watchmen,’ and you have something like ‘Return of the Vigilantes.’ This is the story of a band of washed-up ex-super heroes that reluctantly reunite to face their old nemesis. Like many fallen hero stories, it begins with the characters in their sorriest state. What separates this story, however, is that the characters never get much better. The hero and main character Eric, starts out massively overweight, and ends up massively overweight. Same with the four-armed underachieving manic-paranoid-compulsive Jimmy, or the jaded alcoholic Billy. But together, the three anti-heroes make for some witty and highly amusing storytelling.

With titles like “A Stop, A Drop, and a Chicken Pot Pie,” and “Napping with the Enemy,” you can’t help but laugh at the comedy that underlies the dramatic storyline. Where typical superhero stories are all about drama, action, and saving the world, this one is a little tongue and cheek. Its dramatic, but at the same time, always amusing. Its a refreshing break from the typical superhero story. I highly recommend it.

The book was hilarious. Imagine ‘The Watchmen’ graphic novel. Now imagine it with more humor and more laughs. This is a story about superheroes who called it quits years ago. Supers who have their own flaws and demons. Supers who are suddenly beset by one of their old archenemies, who have to try and put the past behind them to work together to keep everyone alive. And in the process, inadvertently almost cause universal apocolypse in Jimmy’s dining room. But that’s what you get when you buy unkown artifacts from Claw and Manticore’s Odd Crap from the Multiverse website. As I got further into the book, I couldn’t wait to see what new twists and turns would confront our heroes with each new chapter. I would highly recommend this to everyone. I’m already looking forward to the 2nd book.

I really had fun reading this book. The author brings a refreshing style to the concept of the superhero, and turns some of the most conventional notions on their proverbial ears. I found the characters to be absolutely unique and highly entertaining. Each time I finished a chapter, I felt myself eagerly anticipating the next. If you enjoy a light-hearted take on cataclysmic doom, this is one book you won’t want to miss!

This is a great book. Very well put together. Exciting and full of action, with colorful characters, it’s an interesting spin on hero life. If you like super-heroes, or just a good fun read, you should definitely give this a shot.
