  1. The author, Robin Pharo, has extensive professional experience in sustainability and understands that one solution does not fit all when it comes to earth-friendly practices.

The most fun part of this book is a quiz you take to find out if you are an Earth Hugger, a Tech Master, Biker Mentalist, Eco Camo, Life Long Scout, Sub Lime or Retro Eco. (I’m equal parts Earth Hugger and Sub Lime). Then Pharo takes you through the areas of food, business and work, household and personal care, clothing, transportation, building and remodeling, and travel and provides practical tips, highlighting those of special interest to various personalities.

Of course the first area was food, and I found myself a bit taken aback when she talked about the lunchbox waste and juice boxes being OK for some people. I think I’m so used to being green in this area that I forget small steps for me are big for others. But in other areas, where I had previously hung my head in shame (driving my Eclipse to work instead of taking my bike, for example), I felt like I was given permission to keep driving my car but maybe think about being more green in other areas.

If you’re already pretty green, you won’t learn much. But if you’re only green in one area or just getting started because it all seems so overwhelming, this book is for you.
